Visit of Her Excellency, the Ambassador of Canada to Tunisia to the South-East : Towards a Multidimentional Strategic Partnership

From 6 to 9 May, 2025 : Her Excellency Lauren Deguerre, Ambassador of Canada to Tunisia, made an official visit to the South-East accompanied by a high-level diplomatic and trade delegation. The visit was part of mission aimed at strengthening economic, academic, and institutional cooperation between Canada and Tunisian Southern regions.

The visit was organized in close cooperation with the South-East Chamber of Commerce and Industry, represented by its president, Mr. Ridha Kilani and the Director General, Mr. Ezzedine Bouajaja. The Chamber accompanied the Canadian delegation throughout the mission.

Day 1 : May 6, 2025, Gabes Governorate :

The visit began in Gabes Governorate, where Her Excellency the Ambassador participated in an academic event organized by the Faculty of Science in Gabes under the title :

“Canada, Land of Opportunities and Welcome”. The event brought together students and professors, and featured presentations on study and immigration opportunities to Canada.

The visit also included two leading economic institutions in the region :

  • EDEN LIFE ; Specializing in the production of microalgae (Spirulina), Kattana, Gabes.
  • FEEDCOM : A manufacturer of animal food supplements, Mareth, Gabes.

Day 2 : May 7, 2025, Medenine Governorate :

The visit continued in Medenine Governorate, where the delegation visited three leading institutions :

  • Chemlali Zarzis, for organic olive oil production
  • PACK PRINT PLUS, for cardboard conversion
  • Ben Taiba food Industries Company

These visits reflected the region’s diverse industrial fabric and the wealth of investment and partnership opportunities.

Day 3 : May 8, 2025, Zarzis and Djerba :

The third day included two notable stops :

  • The Zarzis Economic Activities Space, where the Ambassador met Mr. Chawki Friaa, the CEO, and learned about the activities of the companies based in this vital space, which represents a promising investment and logestic Hub.
  • The Djerba Midoun Municipality, where the official launch of the ACICT project was announced. The project aims to support the comprehensive climate action and enhance cooperation in the field of sustainable development, with the participation of civil society actors and local authorities.

This mission was characterized by richness and diversity and reflected a shared desire from both sides to strengthen bilateral ties, particularly in economic, environmental, and academic fields to serve the development of the Southern regions and enhance their openness to international partnerships.
