This evening, Thursday, February 22, 2024, the Minister of Trade and Export Development, Mrs. Kaltoum bin Rajab Haram Al-Qazzah, supervised the signing procession of the founding contract for the management and exploitation company of the free zone for commercial and logistical activities in Ben Guerdane, in the presence of the Chief of Staff of the Minister of Trade, the President and Director General of the Tunisian Office of Commerce, and the shareholders in the company’s capital. Among them is the South-East Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which is represented by the Director-General of the Chamber, a number of members of the Ministry, and the representative from the Ben Guerdane region.
On this occasion, the Minister stressed that signing the founding contract is considered an essential step for the actual launch of the free zone project, as it embodies the true partnership between the public and private sectors.
She indicated that this project will be a lever for development in the region on the one hand and contribute to confronting the phenomena of smuggling and parallel trade on the other hand.
Ms. Kaltoum Ben Rajab added that the Ben Guerdane region, the south-eastern region of Tunisia in general, is unique in its qualitative features that make it qualified to launch a commercial and logistical project that is compatible with the volume of trade exchanges between Tunisia and Libya on the one hand and between North Africa and various sub-Saharan countries on the other hand, in addition to the intense mobility. For travelers in both directions, the geographical location chosen for this project gives it the advantage of proximity to the Libyan markets and can be a link between the European and African continents.
The creation of this zone will also contribute effectively to the rapid integration of the residents of the Ben Guerdane region into the various future activities of the free zone for commercial and logistical activities and to the success of the various commercial, logistical and recreational activities planned to be established in the region, noting that the free zone will be an essential component of the African continental commercial land corridor and an impetus for the rehabilitation of the Ras Jedir crossing according to to international standards.
